Atlantic City Corridor
      Atlantic City, New Jersey

MKW developed a comprehensive Master Plan for the Corridor to attract residents and visitors to downtown Atlantic City and to provide a series of parks, plazas, and programmed events as alternative destinations to the Boardwalk and Casinos. The major vehicular approach includes the extension of a green parkway and culminates in a dramatic redesign of Columbus Plaza. The plaza design incorporated elements that recall Atlantic City's major themes of sun, water and seashore, including a sculptural light tower, a dramatic water feature, and boardwalk and jetty components. Atlantic Plaza was the focal point at night with a laser show and light display, synchronized with sound effects and water features. CRDA used the program of public/civic improvements to further its goal of developing Atlantic City as a regional retail destination. Starting with “The Walk” along Michigan Avenue, the retail development has expanded dramatically, replacing Columbus Park and Atlantic Plaza.
