Harborside Plaza 5, a 34-story Class A office building in Jersey City, NJ, is one of the newer components of the Harborside Financial Center. In addition to the surrounding streetscape, MKW designed the outdoor plaza, which serves as the pedestrian link between the Arts District to the west and the Waterfront Promenade. The sinuous design motif mitigates the linearity of the space and creates a series of garden 'pockets' for casual seating and dining. A memorial, designed by a local artist and dedicated to the Plaza 5 ironworkers who aided the rescue effort following the World Trade Center disaster, is prominently located at the entrance to the Plaza.
