RIVERSIDE COUNTY PARK SOUTH

Location: North Arlington & Lyndhurst, NJ
Client: Bergen County Parks Department

MKW + Associates was engaged to provide landscape architectural services for a new comfort station and amphitheater in the existing Riverside County Park – South Area. In addition to these amenities, custom seating opportunities, new site lighting, pathways and planting were introduced to the space.

Our holistic and creative approach to the concept and schematic site design phases led to the expansion of the project scope. MKW was asked to update the design of the entire 52 acre park including a riverfront multiuse path, parking and vehicular circulation. New park program spaces including fitness stations and an adult recreation area including lawn games such as bocce, horseshoes and cornhole were added. A new inclusive playground and splash pad area was designed to cater to children of all abilities and stimulate them mentally. At the north and south ends of the park are new fitness stations. These are situated adjacent to existing sports facilities in order to help better connect the proposed design with the existing. Also included in the new design are new pathways to improve circulation, picnic pavilion and grove and seating throughout the park.

The new plan creates a stronger relationship between the park users and the adjacent Passaic River through the use of new spaces to passively access the river such as stone landings, wooden viewing decks and two new pedestrian bridges over tributary creeks.
