Capitlizing on the site’s significant location, the new park will catalyze adjacent development and serve as a regional draw, connecting communities within the City and beyond. The park’s unique topography is utilized to create a diverse series of social spaces including amphiteater seating steps, stepped seating terraces, covered gathering space for events, and informal open space for passive recreation.Food kiosks doubling as light towers and a fountain basin with interactive jets respond to the activity on Mulberry Street and the Prudential Center across the street. Access through the park is accomplished by a series of meandering pathways, sculptural bridge, and steps. Historic gardens acknowledging Newark’s rich industrial heritage, are complimented by Math, Science and Nature gardens that nod to Newark’s great future. Special pavements and materials throughout the park aid in wayfinding and deepen the park experience for residents and visitors alike.
